Answer

What work do you decline?

At the fit call we decline requests to use AI everywhere without a specific workflow, work with no executive owner, tools that would act outside the company on their own, data sources that do not exist yet, and quotes before the workflow is defined. At the Spec we decline safety-critical control, unapproved money movement, employment decisions and binding customer commitments without a human approval step.

At the fit call

We say no early, before anyone has spent money, to:

  • a request to use AI everywhere, without a specific workflow
  • work with no executive owner
  • tools that would take actions outside the company on their own
  • a data source that does not exist yet
  • a quote before paying to define the workflow

Each of these makes the work impossible to finish well. Without a named workflow there is nothing to measure. Without an owner, nobody can clear the way for the rollout. Without the data, the tool has nothing to work from.

At the Spec

Some limits only show up once the workflow is mapped. At the Spec we decline, rather than discover at go-live:

  • control of safety-critical equipment
  • money that moves without a person approving it
  • employment decisions
  • binding commitments to customers without a human approval step

Why say no

Saying no early costs a twenty-minute call. Finding the same problem at go-live costs a build. Some work is also a better fit elsewhere: company-wide strategy suits a consultancy, and a large product with a trusted specification suits a development shop. Our comparison pages cover when to choose each. The full terms are on how we work.

Questions people ask

Why decline a request to use AI everywhere?

Because there is no specific workflow to fix, no crew to adopt the tool and no number to measure. We fix specific problems, where the work actually happens.

Why will you not quote before a Spec?

A quote before the workflow is defined is a guess. The Spec ends with a fixed Build proposal instead.

Can a Spec itself recommend against building?

Yes. Go, no-go and recommend-against are all valid outcomes.
