Restaurant ordering: pickup orders on the restaurant's own site, straight to the kitchen

A small restaurant's own ordering site and kitchen screen: customers order pickup from the menu, pick a time and pay online, and the order lands on a screen in the kitchen with its pickup time. The kitchen marks it ready, turns items off when they run out, changes prices and pauses online orders on a busy night, and the website follows instantly. Fox & Santiago built it for The Pastime Restaurant.

The problem it fixes

Phone orders tie up whoever answers, get written down wrong in the rush, and leave the kitchen guessing when people will walk in. Delivery apps fix the phone but take a cut of every order and sit between the restaurant and its regulars.

What changed

Orders arrive paid, with a pickup time, on a screen the kitchen controls, from the restaurant's own site.

How it works

  1. The restaurant's own site, in its own style

The site is built around the restaurant's look and its real menu, with the hours, the specials and the story, not a template every other restaurant shares.

  2. A menu that follows the week

Sides and add-ons work like the menu board. Taco night appears on its night and the weekend specials on their own weekends, without anyone editing the site.

  3. Pick a time and pay

Customers choose a pickup time from the slots the kitchen can actually fill, add a tip and pay online, so the order is paid before the kitchen starts it.

  4. Orders land on the kitchen screen

Every paid order appears with its pickup time and notes. One tap marks it ready, another marks it picked up, and the kitchen can switch items off, change prices or pause online orders in a busy rush.

Who it is for

  • Independent restaurants, bars and grills
  • Owners tired of delivery app commissions
  • Kitchens that want orders on a screen, not on the phone

Questions people ask

What problem does it solve?

A small restaurant either takes orders by phone, tying up whoever answers, or gives a delivery app a cut of every order. Its own ordering site takes the order, the payment and the pickup time, and puts it in front of the kitchen.

Can the kitchen change the menu itself?

Yes. Items can be turned off for the day when they run out, prices and daily limits changed, and new items added from the kitchen screen. The online menu updates immediately.

Is the demo the real software?

Yes, on a fictional restaurant: the Tin Lantern Bar & Grill in the made-up town of Cedar Flats, Idaho. No card is charged in the demo, and the sample restaurant resets itself every 30 minutes.
